Summer is the festival of blooms! Starting in mid-May, our Summer annuals start moving out to the floor so you can prepare your planters for their annual season of glory! Pack your planters full of bountiful blooms to catch the eye and feed the pollinators! Hummingbirds LOVE annual Salvia, Cuphea, Lobelia and more--put out a buffet for those little guys!

Heres a tip: you can leave "seasonal pockets" in your perennial beds that allow you to keep your landscape up-to-date with the latest annual blooms! When it comes to designing your planters, the traditional trick is the "thriller, filler, spiller" method. In this strategy, taller, more showy annuals are deemed "thrillers" and are normally the centerpiece of the design. "Fillers," as you may expect, are used to fill in the space around your thriller. If you have one type of thriller in a design, we recommend having three types of thrillers for maximum impact. Lastly, "spillers" flow over the sides of your container to extend the vertical impact of the overall design.
