Planting native is the BEST way to give back to the Earth in your yard, and Bountiful Gardens is proud to offer a full selection of both classic and hard-to-find species to give you near endless choices! Native species species provide the healthiest pollen and nectar for our bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, as they all evolved alongside each other for millions of years.

Native Perennials are the most crucial part of a pollinator's diet, with many of them being host plants to different species of caterpillars. For instance, Monarchs rely on Milkweed (Asclepias) during every stage of their life! Our native Ruby-Throated hummingbird goes crazy over Coral Honeysuckle and Cardinal Flower's tubular flowers.

Let's dispel the myth right here: a true native garden does NOT look messy! It's all about layering. Many people simply purchase a big bag of native wildflower seeds, toss them in a planting bed and consider it done. After a few months, you're left with a bed overrun with weeds with a few sad wildflowers mixed in.

 

Starting from seed can be difficult, which is why we offer all of our native species in at least 4" deep pots. This means you're getting an established plant, ready for a growth spurt, while also giving you the opportunity to accurately place your species where you'd like them to grow (as opposed to a seed mix). This gives you much more control over your groupings and layerings, and will make weeding easier, as you won't have to worry about plucking out wildflower seedlings.
