Perennials

Gorgeous Blooms, Year After Year

Perennials are the heart and soul of the garden. Their endless colors and textures allow for limitless possibilities, and no matter your site conditions, we're sure to have a perennial to suit your tastes and needs. In our opinion, a great garden is a carefully-chosen balance between colors, textures and blooming period. To make browsing easier, we've broken up our collection below by bloom time. Simply click on a plant to read its full profile, complete with growing requirements, recommended companion plants and popular varieties!

When designing with perennials, make sure to keep height, width, texture and color in mind to ensure a cohesive, layered result. Typically, you'll want your taller perennials in the back of the bed and your shortest in the front. Take note of your site conditions--is the spot dry? Is it prone to standing water? Is the soil sandy, loamy or clay-based? Answering these questions will help you choose plants that will thrive in your yard with little maintenance!

If you're a fan of pollinators like bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, you can attract them to your garden by selecting plants they love! In fact, perennial plants are the lifeblood of our pollinators, and many are "host plants," meaning they're essential to a species of butterfly's survival. For example, Monarchs are completely reliant upon Milkweed throughout their lives, hatching on the plant, eating the leaves, going through metamorphosis and eventually returning to lay eggs.

Those looking to "Go Native" will be thrilled to hear that Bountiful Gardens offers hundreds of species of native perennials that will fit right into your landscape. Planting native is the best way to support native pollinators while ensuring your garden is a valuable part of your local ecosystem.
