Winter Jasmine
Jasminum nudiflorum

The Winter Sunbeam: Jasminum nudiflorum
Commonly known as Winter Jasmine, this plant is a bit of a rebel. Unlike its cousins, its flowers aren't heavily scented, but it makes up for it with stunning visual impact and a "can-do" attitude toward cooler indoor temperatures.
Suggested Placement in the Home
To keep this plant happy indoors, think "Cool and Bright." * The Sunroom: An unheated or lightly heated sunroom is its paradise.
The Draughty Windowsill: While most tropicals hate cold drafts, Winter Jasmine actually appreciates a cooler spot (around 10°C–15°C) to trigger its winter blooming cycle.
Vertical Space: Because it has a trailing/climbing habit, place it on a high shelf or a pedestal where its "fountains" of green stems can cascade downward.
Care & Maintenance
Pruning: This is the most important part of its care! Once the yellow flowers fade in spring, give it a good trim. This encourages new growth, which is where next year’s flowers will appear.
Training: It doesn't have tendrils to climb on its own, so if you want it to go "up," you’ll need to loosely tie it to a trellis or hoop.
Watering: Keep the soil moist but never soggy. In the winter (its blooming phase), check the soil every few days.
The Essential Tip for Beginners
The "Chill Factor": If your Winter Jasmine refuses to bloom indoors, it’s probably too cozy! To set flower buds, this plant needs a period of cooler temperatures in late autumn. Try keeping it in a garage or a very cool hallway for a few weeks before bringing it into your main living area for the winter show.
