Gold Pacific Juniper

Juniperus conferta 'sPg-3-016'

Gold Pacific Juniper: Liquid Sunshine for the Landscape

Snapshot

  • Common Name: All Gold Shore Juniper / Gold Pacific Juniper

  • Scientific Name: Juniperus conferta 'All Gold'

  • Hardiness: Zones 6 – 9 (Handled the 2026 winter like a champ)

  • Vibe: Electric, illuminating, and textured; the "Highlighter" of the groundcover world.

Potted Advantages: Brightness in a Box

  • True-Color Guarantee: In the ground, young junipers can sometimes look a bit washed out. In your nursery pots, the "All Gold" variety shows off its true, brilliant citrus-yellow hue, making it an easy sell for anyone looking to brighten a dark corner.

  • Instant Massing: Because these are potted with healthy, sprawling branches, customers can space them out and immediately see how three or five plants will knit together to cover a bare patch of NJ clay.

  • Shock Resistance: Junipers can be sensitive to root disturbance. Selling them in pots ensures the root ball stays intact during the ride home to North Brunswick, leading to much faster "take-off" once planted.

  • Winter Bronze: It provides year-round interest. In the summer, it's bright gold; in the winter, it often takes on an attractive amber or orange tint that looks stunning against a light dusting of snow.

Jersey-Strong Performance

  • Deer Resistance: Just like its blue sibling, Gold Pacific is "off the menu." The prickly needles and resinous scent make it a low priority for the local deer population.

  • Salt & Pollution Tolerance: This is a "Shore Juniper." Whether it's the salt air of the Jersey Shore or the road salt on a busy North Brunswick corner, this plant is designed to handle harsh conditions.

  • Weed Suppression: Its dense, mat-forming habit acts as a living mulch. Once established, very few weeds can find the light through its golden canopy.

Garden Chronicles: A Bright Spot in Central Jersey

"I have a long retaining wall that looked a bit too industrial. I bought a few pots of the Gold Pacific Juniper to mix in with some darker evergreens. The contrast is unbelievable. It looks like gold lace draping over the stones. It’s handled the weird NJ freeze-thaw cycles of the last few years perfectly, and the color just gets more intense as the weather gets hotter. It’s my favorite 'set-it-and-forget-it' plant."

Designer Tips: Where to Plant

  • The "Complementary" Pair: Plant it right next to its Blue Pacific cousin. The contrast between the steely blue and the bright gold is a high-end designer look that makes both colors "pop."

  • The Dark Backdrop: Use it at the base of dark-leaved shrubs like Purple Pixie Loropetalum or Ninebark. The yellow needles against the dark purple leaves look incredible.

  • The "Luminescent" Pathway: Line a stone walkway with Gold Pacific. Even at twilight, the golden needles reflect enough light to make the path clearly visible.
